UK Grid Launches New TINet Service in Manchester

UK Grid Launches New TINet Service in Manchester

15/03/2009 16:30:50

This week UK Grid is going live with a new Gigabit service with TINet meaning that UK Grid can now deliver TINet bandwidth (IPv4 and IPv6) to customers located in UK Grid's Manchester POPs.

The advantage of peering with TINet is it's resilience from London as TINet's Manchester POP has 1 x 10 Gbps to London and also 1 x 10 Gbps to Dublin. Dublin connects to the USA, to London and Paris bypassing London i.e. Manchester would still connect to the USA and to mainland Europe even in case of a major London outage.

This gives Manchester customers a real advantage with fully diverse bandwidth delivery and it also means Manchester Data Centres including Synergy House are a true DR location away from other major cities in the UK.

UK Grid can currently deliver TINet services into Synergy House, Greenheys DC, IFL2, Telecity Williams and Telecity Kilburn.

IPv6 is provided with IPv4 as standard or natively by TINet and they have the most extensive IPV6 network in the world as ranked by the independent CAIDA organisation. TINet is also currently ranked as number 7 worldwide by network connectivity to the Internet:

The index is calculated to indicate the average number of networks, or hops that must be traversed between any IP address on a given network to any other IP address on the Internet.
