UK Grid rolls out IPv6 in Manchester

UK Grid has IPv6 enabled it’s core network in Synergy House DC1 and DC2 meaning clients can now peer using IPv6 and UK Grid can allocate IPv6 addressing to it's existing IPv4 clients. Currently UK Grid peers with Cogent and TINET’s global IPv6 network backbones and shortly will begin peering with Level3 when they finalise their Manchester IPv6 roll out.

UK Grid has been allocated a /32 IPv6 prefix from RIPE and this range will be split into /48 subnets which will be allocated to clients. The sheer size of the IPv6 address space means that UK Grid can deploy a /48 subnet to 65,536 clients.

Synergy House is endorsed by the EU Code of conduct.

UK Grid’s Manchester data centre Synergy House has today been accepted as a participant in the EU Code of Conduct for Data Centres. The EU Code of Conduct is led by European Commission Joint Research Centre and is a voluntary commitment of individual companies, which own data centers (owners/operators), with the aim of reducing energy consumption.

The purpose of the code is to understand the energy demand in data centres, to raise awareness and to recommend best practice and targets for service providers to implement. Synergy House is the first UK Data Centre based outside of London to participate in the code.

UK Grid announces a further 18 months of energy price freezes...

UK Grid is proud to announce that despite energy price increases being seen on the wholesale energy markets, UK Grid will not be increasing its electricity prices throughout the next 18 months and has decided to buck the market trends by keeping energy prices static.

UK Grid follow the wholesale energy markets closely and plan up to 3 years in advance to ensure that our data centres run as economically as possible with cost savings being passed on to our customers.

UK Grid’s CEO Rob Garbutt added, "it has been a tough 18 months for all businesses financially and we hope that this measure of financial certainty will encourage growth and stability amongst our customers."
